Vespod

This very compelling prose unravels a story centred on a trio of girls - teenage Élisabeth in small-town France in 1963, listening to the conversations of adults under a café table on the day of her older friend Thérèse's funeral, while reading Henriette's diary written some twenty years earlier. Secrets kept under wraps in post-war small-town life gradually come to light. Slowly and very subtly, a great and tragic story of betrayal, collective guilt and collaboration is revealed at the very end.
