There are two extensive picture archives in the Salzburg Open Air Museum (Salzburger Freilichtmuseum) with a total of about 11,400 photos. One comes from Dr. Kurt Conrad (1919 – 1994), the founder and first director of the Museum, the other from Salzburg based “photographer of landscape, trade and industry” Bruno Kerschner (1897 – 1965). As a joint project between the Salzburg Open Air Museum and FOTOHOF, Rainer Iglar and Michael Mauracher as curators, at the suggestion and with the support of Michael Weese, the director of the Museum, have developed and accompanied a project within which 15 photographers, each with a different thematic focus, have photographed Salzburg in the years 2020/2021. The historical photographic material proves to be a rich basis for the contemporary examination of topics of everyday life in the Salzburg area.
