Western Lane

Eleven-year-old Gopi has been playing squash since she was old enough to hold a racket. When her mother dies, her father enlists her in a new training regimen that at first seems innocent but proves unusually tough, even brutal, and absorbing. Gopi begins to gradually drift away from her two sisters, her life and her whole world shrinking solely to the sport and following its rhythm: serve, volley, hit. But she is not alone on the court. She's with her dad. She's with Ged, an enormously talented 13-year-old boy. She's with the players who came before her.
