The publication Space in the Head presents a picture of the artistic work of Slovak sculptor Pavla Sceranková in the last decade. Through texts by British critic Chloe Stead and Czech curator Jan Zálešák, it is divided into thematic chapters that provide insight into the artist's rich sculptural and visual language.
Pavla Sceranková (*1980) brings a new authorial language and expression to the field of sculpture and object making; a new conception, building on the strong legacy of postmodern, but also neo-conceptual spatial art. He creates sculptural objects and installations characterized by minimalist purity and a sensitive relationship to the site. Another aspect of her work is the creation of objects that incorporate an element of action, inviting the viewer to interact. Sometimes they take the form of a video, or rather a video sculpture, which stands between performance, animated sculpture and autonomous video. They express the existential relationship of a person to the environment in which he lives and with which he confronts. In terms of content, Pavla Sceranková is intensively concerned with the reflection of human perception, memory and individual experience of the surrounding world. It is based on personal experience and examines the way this experience has been preserved in memory, or what shape it has taken. The author thematizes the phenomenon of perception, the experience of the act of perception, the relation of perception to the perceived world and the consciousness of the act of perception.
