A bilingual catalogue of the AAAD Textile Design Studio presents a selection of student works from the years 2012 to 2016, experimenting with materials in ways uncommon for ordinary perception of textiles. The students created projects for various areas of textile design, both two- and three-dimensional, where textile is used either as traditional or alternative material. Their creative works brought ideas and solutions that were not only novel, innovative, with great aesthetic value and applying expert knowledge, but also respected the principles of sustainable development and use of local materials and waste. Every so often, new “smart” materials are introduced to the market and the technological development opens new ways and areas for designing, manufacturing and use of textiles. Thanks to their specific knowledge of materials and textile techniques, textile designers are uniquely positioned to make use of such new alternatives. In addition to experimental approaches, the tuition at the Studio is focused on traditional textile techniques; repeating, infinite and solitary patterns; tapestry; and the area of art design.
