Slečny 2.0

The book Slečny 2.0 (Misses 2.0) is a new edition of a time-lapse documentary about unmarried and childless women in the Czech Republic, first published in 2012, now updated to 2025, and previously awarded in the Most Beautiful Czech Books of the Year competition. What stereotypes do single and childless women face in the 21st century? How does the state treat them—and how does society or family? What is it like to live as a secret nun, a lifelong mistress, a single woman in exile, an unouted lesbian, or the so-called black sheep of the family? Literary documentarian Barbora Baronová and photographer Dita Pepe capture the 20th and 21st centuries through the eyes of eight women who remained single in many respects.
