Oni dva

The book deals with the mutual relationship between two important artists, sculptor Otto Gutfreund (1889-1927) and architect Otakar Novotný (1880-1959), who were connected not only by friendship and family ties, but also by their relationship to Prague, in whose form they both made an indelible mark.

Based on family archives, the text straddles the line between fiction and art-historical study, bringing to light many unknown facts that illuminate the lives of the two artists within the limits of the time allotted to them. It thus becomes one of the keys to understanding their extraordinary creative legacy. A major contribution of the publication is a pictorial essay composed of previously unpublished photographs, which are not merely a record of their lives, but also give the reader a glimpse into the social and historical colour of a turbulent time.
