The queer history of the Holocaust, that is, the question of same-sex desire among Holocaust victims, has until recently remained a white space in historical research. This is due to the widespread homophobia of both victims and survivors, which has led to the voices of these people being largely erased from the archives. Anna Hájek's book offers the first attempt to capture the history of these silenced voices. In three chapters: an introduction to queer desire in the Holocaust era, the dramatic story of Prague resistance fighter Irena Miller, and the five fates of queer Jewish teenagers, including Anne Frank, People Without History Are Dust offers informed insight into a long-secret history that is transforming our understanding of Holocaust history. The English translation is accompanied by an original foreword by documentary filmmaker and historian Martin Šmok. - Published with the support of the Goethe Institut.
