A historical view of the labor market and household through women's eyes A hundred years ago, women with a college education were forced to choose between a career and a family. Women were responsible for all family care, and career growth was not a given for them either. Doing both at the same time was practically unthinkable. Today, more women than ever before have a college education, and more and more of them want both: a fulfilling career and a family. However, old problems persist—and new ones are emerging. Economist and historian Claudia Goldin has devoted decades to researching the differences between men's and women's careers, their pay and position in the labor market, and the balance between personal and professional life. In her book Career and Family, she summarizes the diverse experiences of women, policies focused on the labor market and personal life, and changes in employers' attitudes, showing that anti-discrimination laws and enlightened managers are important, but not enough. It is necessary to look at care, family, work, and their interconnections from a completely different perspective. From the Nobel Prize winner in economics Book of the Year according to The Economist
