The catalogue for Josef Bolf's exhibition Melancholy of the Outer Limits presents, for the first time ever, an extensive collection of small-format paintings created over the last ten years. Although the works did not originate as a set, they nevertheless enter into a common dialogue and create a universe of their own: "In a relatively small space, unknown worlds interpenetrate and galactic explosions take place, the gates of dimensions shatter with tears. Bolf's new paintings are not only a testament to his own struggle, but also a reflection on the contemporary world and its chaotic nature. The latest works combine elements of dystopian landscapes with intimate portraits," says curator, editor and author of the expert study Josef M. Urban. He decided to take advantage of this aspect when creating the catalogue, working with the artist to create the character of Antoni Mikolas Bott, who is tasked with writing a spooky tale in the spirit of A. C. Doyle or H. P. Lovecraft with the help of keywords. Behind the impressive visuals of the catalogue is renowned graphic designer Robert V. Novák, who also participated in the preparation of the exhibition.
