Introduction to Comparative Planetology – Lukáš Likavčan

Kniha „Úvod do komparativní planetologie“ (Strelka Press, 2019) analyzuje vizuální kultury zobrazování Země z pohledu geopolitiky klimatické krize. Porovnává u toho různé „figury“ planety – Planetární, Globální, Terestriální, Zem-bez-nás a Spektrální Zemi – a na tomto základě pak hodnotí jejich geopolitické důsledky. Tyto důsledky se v knize následně promítají do schopnosti nebo neschopnosti té které figury přispívat k budování infrastrukturního prostoru pro planetární koordinaci našich designových intervencí, jež by uměli odvrátit urychlující se globální oteplování, a v konečném důsledku i masové vymírání druhů.

The publication 'Introduction to Comparative Planetology' by Lukáš Likavčan presents an intertwined analysis of visual cultures of imagining the Earth and geopolitcs of climate emergency.

It compares different 'figures' of the planet - teh Planetary, the Globe, the Terrestrial, Earth-without-us and Spectral Earth - in order to access their geopolitical implications. These implications are then mapped on respective prospects of these figures in developing an infrastructural space for planetary coordination of our design interventions against runaway global heating, and ultimately against mass specis extinction.
