The first volume of the new RR Edition series. This book about Filip Topol is an easy-to-read chronological overview of the life and work of this musician and writer (1965–2013). It covers events from the 1970s to the period after his death. It combines facts with Topol's variously stylized statements. It presents his literary beginnings and the formation of the band Psí vojáci (Dog Soldiers) in the context of other artistic activities of young artists and writers who gathered in the early 1980s, mainly in Malá Strana. The narrative follows not only the gradual establishment of Psí vojáci in the independent underground scene, but also the response in the press in the second half of the 1980s, when the band was already allowed to perform on the club scene. After 1989, when Filip Topol and Psí vojáci were able to make a living from their activities, the book not only records the emergence of new musical and literary projects, but also shows how the group and its frontman coped with the pressure of the media environment and the laws of show business. It also touches on Topol's struggles with alcohol and his search for ways to set new priorities after a life-saving operation. Michael Špirito's book also includes a detailed literary and musical bibliography and is supplemented by a note on the origin of the name Psí vojáci. It also features a number of photographs, with image editing and graphic design by Josefa Karlíková.
