The authors of this book convey to the readers the key processes in architecture of the 1980s - in particular the growing efforts of critical internal self-reflection, realistic assessment of the possibilities of our building industry and efforts to revitalize it or reactions to the then current social or international challenges. And with the ambitions, they also indicate the circumstances of their (un)fulfilment in real creation. Against the backdrop of institutional and ideological backgrounds, they present this architecture as a complex and in many ways contradictory mosaic. It reflects both a loosened consumer-oriented lifestyle and the ubiquitous unified construction in an economically and morally weak regime. It encompasses both the inertia of the state's social policy and the exclusive services to prominent individuals. Carefully moderated ideological representation through ostentatious buildings as well as the slightly "subversive" seepage and eventual fulfillment of Western inspirations. Massive exploitation and destruction of nature alongside plans to create a sustainable environment. The technocratic organization of architects' work, as well as their ability to find positive private niches in an alternative culture. If the era of the 1980s seems extremely contradictory, then architecture could not be more different.
