Musical Kinetics is a representative document of the approach of Czech music-theorists to the concept and exploration of musical time at the turn of the millennium. The theoretical starting point for grasping the kinetic phenomena is the principle of hierarchy as formulated by Karel Risinger in the late sixties of the past century. On this abstract base, Vladimír Tichý builds his systematics of musical rhythm, meter and tempo. Tomáš Kuhn applies Tichý´s ideas to jazz and Vlastislav Matoušek to ethnic music. Their works prove general validity of the hierarchical principle also in other than European art music. The book includes a subject index common for all the three studies providing thus more interesting connections. The publication is the first of a series in English which should pay the debt to the Czech musical theory, not much known abroad up to now.
